Trailer Parts: A Guide

Veronica Leon

A trailer is a perfect vehicle for carrying goods and materials, such as containers and machinery. With their sleek and streamlined appearance, trailers contribute to the professional appearance of an enterprise. In addition, trailers can be built to suit to carry a wide range of weights so they are an adaptable option with a wide variety of applications. This article will cover the different parts and components which make up a trailer. Read on to find out more!

Axles

The majority of trailers have standard frames which are fitted with one axle, although some people choose to fit twin axles. An axle is located at each end of the frame for the stability of the trailer on the road or path you are travelling. Most trailers have two tyres fitted on each axle, but there are instances where four may be used; these include heavier applications such as tankers and haulage vehicles.

The front coupling

A front coupling on a trailer is used to attach it to another vehicle. This is usually formed by a lever system that offers a simple means of attaching and un-attaching trailers, although some modern trailers now use an electromagnet that can be activated to attach the trailer in just a few seconds when required.

Tow bars

A tow bar is attached at one end of the trailer. This connects to the front coupling when travelling on the road so it's important that the tow bar should be strong enough for your application. The tow bar can either be fitted on your trailer in place of a coupling or can replace the coupling entirely.

Ramps

Trailers are often fitted with ramps. The ramp can be raised and lowered by hand or may even work automatically. For ease of loading, some trailers are fitted with two ramps; one at each side of the main part of the trailer which allows you to load large items without backing up when travelling on a restricted sized road.

Additional components

When towing, you may need to fit additional components such as brake lights, mirrors and horns. These can be attached to the trailer in exactly the same way as a tow bar. You can also choose to fit a reversing camera or monitor so that you can ensure your trailer is clear of any surrounding obstacles at all times.

Upgrades and Safety Innovations to Heavy Construction Equipment

As a manager of a construction site, you have a lot of liability as well as a responsibility to your employees, and it's critical to take those matters seriously. Hi, my name is Marc, and I used to manage a construction company. A few years ago, I changed courses and starting working as a medical tech in an emergency department. Seeing a lot of injured people prompts me to think of the importance of safety, and in light of my previous experiences, I think a lot about the safety of construction work. I wanted to explore this topic through writing so I decided to start this blog. Here, I plan to focus on upgrades and innovations throughout the construction equipment industry and possibly provide a few extra safety tips as well. I hope you enjoy reading.
